Blue light lenses

For long days at a screen. Blue light-blocking glasses help reduce your exposure to the high-energy light from phones, computers and LED lighting.

How does blue light affect the eye?

Blue light is a high-energy, short-wavelength light (380–500 nm) that is emitted by the sun, digital screens, LED lighting, and fluorescent bulbs.

While natural blue light is essential for regulating sleep-wake cycles and boosting alertness, excessive exposure, especially from artificial sources, can have negative effects on eye health.

Effects on the eye

  1. Digital eye strain (computer vision syndrome)Prolonged screen exposure can cause eye fatigue, dryness, blurred vision, and headaches due to excessive blue light and reduced blinking.
  2. Disruption of sleep patternsBlue light affects melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep when exposed to screens before bedtime.
  3. Potential retinal damageSome studies suggest that long-term exposure to high levels of blue light may contribute to retinal cell damage and increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
  4. Increased risk of myopia (nearsightedness)Excessive screen time, especially in children, may contribute to the progression of myopia by affecting how the eye focuses light.

How to reduce blue light exposure

  • Use blue light filters on screens or wear blue light-blocking glasses.
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
  • Reduce screen brightness and use night mode settings.
  • Limit screen time before bed to avoid sleep disturbances.

While blue light is not inherently harmful in moderation, mindful exposure can help protect eye health and improve overall well-being.
